We tend to get a little sentimental this time of year. The beginning of a new year is brimming with promise, but it also means another chapter is coming to a close. It’s kind of like singing Auld Lang Syne on New Year’s Eve. Most of us don’t know exactly what it means (see: When Harry Met Sally) but the basic premise is let’s toast to the good ol’ days, or days gone by, or something like that.

Before we head into 2023, we wanted to take a look back, not only at 2022, but the journey of 5 Points Realty. It’s important to take the time to appreciate our travels and the legacy we leave in our footsteps. We are proud of the trying times we’ve weathered, what we have built and what is yet to come.

FROM BOOM TO BUST AND BACK AGAIN

Michael Doney and six other owners started 5 Points Realty in 2007. The real estate market was booming! Then, just like that, 2008 was the start of a big ole bust. The Great Recession. 5 Points Realty went from seven owners to three: Michael Doney, Edwin Wilson and Charlie Miller. These guys locked arms, put their heads down, and forged ahead in spite of the abysmal real estate market.

The market eventually began to turn around and 5 Points Realty had persevered, earning a respected position in Charlotte real estate. All of our effort was on building the business and riding the upturn of the market that was starting to happen. Now, other agents were coming on board and a Broker in Charge put in place.

TIME FOR A WARDROBE CHANGE

Fast forward a bit to 2018, and 5PR had grown so much, it was time for a wardrobe change, so to speak. It was out with the old and in with the new logo, brand, website, social media and public relations. It was time to showcase this hardworking, well-respected and now well-established real estate entity. A full rebrand was unveiled to our brokers on October 25, 2018.

EXPANSION IN A TIME OF WORLDWIDE UNCERTAINTY

In March of 2020, the world was hit by a crippling pandemic that left no one spared in its wake of uncertainty. 5 Points Realty gently and carefully kept going. In fact, the owners of 5PR  decided to purchase a second office in 2019 at a time when no one was going to an office. However, in the spirit of always looking forward, this office was going to fit a post-pandemic world. Not just any office of course, an older building on the edge of the Plaza Midwood’s historic district and a property that needed a lot of love (aka renovations).

OUR GROWING FAMILY

Between 2020 and 2022, we have added 12 incredible brokers to our firm. We are very proud of this, especially considering we don’t recruit. We let our relationships in the industry organically connect us with our treasured broker family. We have a fantastic marketing and support team and we couldn’t be more proud. We continue to devote ourselves to our relationships with our clients, friends, families and the real estate industry. It all blends together into one beautiful home.

OUR SECOND HOME

People felt cooped up during the pandemic and longed for a second place to go. It was a perfect time for 5PR to expand our services to the Grand Strand. This 60 mile stretch of beaches is a great place for a second home, an investment property or short-term rental and we couldn’t be more thrilled to make our clients’ dreams come true. Our brokers know the area well and shared their favorite coastal haunts off the beaten path

WHAT LIES AHEAD?

With 2023 in our sights, we find ourselves on the edge of another market downturn. That’s ok, we have been here before and are stronger for it. As our history shows, we make lemonade.  We are excited to see what this new year brings and can’t wait to have our next gathering in person! Thank you to all who have been on this journey with us. Much love and cheer and all of the best to you in the coming year.

For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne. We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet for auld lang syne.
