June is National Homeowners month. It is a month set aside to celebrate the benefits of being, yes you guessed it, a homeowner. And boy do we have a lot to celebrate this year! Homeowners we salute you!

During the isolation of the coronavirus pandemic, our homes became our offices, schools, and restaurants. Our homes also provided us safe shelter against the outside world.  The much-needed extension of our homes are our yards, gardens, porches, and balconies. Our homes go beyond the walls and include our sidewalks, streets, and neighbors.  The idea and reality of home have never been more profound.  Our homes have always served our lives and all that we need. We are just hyper-aware of that fact now.

The concept for celebrating homeownership actually began back in the 1920’s with a week-long celebration. Over the years, it has changed in appearance until it was eventually recognized as a national celebration in 2002.

The benefits of homeownership reach both the practical and personal sides of our lives.

“Owning a home is a keystone of wealth- both financial affluence and emotional security”-Suze Orman

Let’s face it. We spend a lot of time in our homes. Even more than usual, lately. Your home is a reflection of your lifestyle. Beyond neighborhood stability, homeownership is a nod to your own stability. It is without a doubt one of the largest purchases you will ever make. It is also one of the most sound financial investments you can make.

“There is something permanent and something extremely profound in owning a home.”- Kenny Guinn

A home has a personality in line with its owners. After all, it’s where you get to make the rules. Far from the corporate sterile environments of workplaces, our homes are where we can relax and unwind.

“Home is a place you grow up wanting to leave and grow old wanting to get back to.” – John Ed Pearce

So many memories are made in your home… good, bad, and otherwise. We imagine that the memories you’ve made in your home the last few months will never be forgotten as generations to come talk about what life was like during the pandemic.

So take the time this month to show your house a little love.
  • Spruce it up where you can.
  • Clean it a little extra.
  • If you’ve got time, take care of that project you’ve been putting off.
