One of our favorite Charlotte events is the latest to jump on the virtual bandwagon in light of the COVID pandemic and you can bet we’ll be logging on for it! It’s the first time The Charlotte Museum of History’s Mad About Modern Home Tour will be all digital.

Now in its 9th year, the tour gives attendees insider access to three private homes representing some of the best midcentury + modern architecture and design in the Queen City. This year, you won’t have to leave the comfort and safety of your own home to experience it.

5 Points Realty Co-Owner Charlie Miller has two houses featured on the tour. One is the Markway house. Built in 1951, this home in the Oak Forest neighborhood is over 2100 square feet of mid modern architecture. His other house on the tour is Cohen Fumero House.

The Cohen-Fumero House has it’s own Instagram page worth checking out. You can see all the work being done on the property. It is a Historic Landmark, 1961, high-style mid-century modern home in Charlotte NC. @charliemiller_5points is overseeing the preservation. This Fall Charlie will be focusing on the landscaping and outdoor entertaining areas. Even the exterior of Cohen-Fumero falls under the Historic Landmark Commission’s purview so his plan had to be precise.

5 Points Realty is a big supporter of the Charlotte Museum of History. We believe in the work they do and think historic preservation is important for a growing city like ours. In fact, our own agent Cassee Cunningham was a judge for the 2nd year for the Charlotte Musuem of History’s Historic Preservation Awards.

“I love seeing the diversity of historic preservation in the Charlotte region. This isn’t an antiquated version of historic preservation. We look at all era’s and styles of architecture residential and commercial.  Mid-Century buildings can so easily be overlooked but they are capturing the attention of smart creative people who are bringing their full coolness back. It’s so inspiring. “

One of the Excellence in Preservation nominees was NCModernist.  Although they do not have a direct connection with the Mad About Modern tour they do amazing work throughout the State of North Carolina preserving Modernist architecture.

The kick-off for this year’s Mad About Modern tour will be a digital lecture on Charlotte Modernism with NCModernist founder George Smart Saturday, September 26 at 6:00 PM.

This event will be a great way to ‘get out’ without actually getting out! Plus, It’s fun to see the depth of architecture and style found around the Queen City. These aren’t your typical Charlotte styled homes. We bet you’ll be inspired by what you see! You might even feel more hip after it’s over!
